Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist Claims Diesel Soot Melting the Sierra Snow Pack
Reducing Diesel Soot is Faster And Cheaper Than Reducing CO2 in Effort to Slow Global Warming
MENLO PARK, California (December 11, 2009) – In his new book, Addicted to Energy Silicon Valley venture capitalist Elton Sherwin claims, that reducing diesel soot is key to affordably protecting the planet from rapid warming.
Drawing on research from UC Berkeley, Stanford and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Sherwin says that reducing diesel soot is faster and cheaper than reducing CO2. “We still need to dramatically reduce CO2, but eliminating diesel soot is a quick, affordable way to lessen the likelihood of crossing a major climate threshold or tipping point.”
Some models show California’s central valley getting 10 degrees hotter this century. “We in California’s should be very motivated to get this right, to lead the world in developing strategies to reduce diesel soot. This is primarily a financing issue, not a technology issue. The technology exists to do this.”
Stacy Jackson in her work at UC Berkeley has shown that black carbon, or soot, will have a significantly greater impact on the world’s climate than CO2 in the short term.
Veerabhadran Ramanathan, one of the world’s leading climate scientists at Scripps Institute for Oceanography in a recent article in Foreign Affairs, says that existing emissions-control technologies could “be enough to offset the warming effects of one to two decades’ worth of carbon dioxide emissions.”**
In his book Sherwin suggests including diesel soot in California’s cap and trade system. “California’s oil companies paid to retrofit dry cleaners in southern California to offset their emissions. If diesel soot were included in a cap and trade system, California’s largest polluters would immediately buy soot filters for the trucking industry, because this is such an inexpensive way to reduce emissions.”

Rock Icon Andy Fraser Combats Climate Change by Taking on the World’s Biggest Polluters with a Powerful new Music Video
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, CA - December 10, 2009 -- 70’s Rock icon and environmental activist, Andy Fraser formerly from the band FREE, combats climate change with his creativity by releasing the new single and music video This Is The Big One. Fraser, the reclusive icon from the 70’s rock band FREE and writer of the monster rock anthems ‘All Right Now’ and Robert Palmer’s ‘Every Kinda People’, has created the powerful new music video to serve as the anthem for the Catastrophic Climate Change Movement.
Andy Fraser is standing with campaigns such as Avaaz.org, TckTckTck, 350.org,
Repower America, and Al Gore, to help promote the message of catastrophic climate change. In his continuing efforts to keep the climate change issue front and center, Fraser is also sponsoring a Climate Change Video Competition for all those concerned about our planet.
Fraser’s poignant lyrics of This Is The Big One states the time to act is now and we all must pull together and make a difference.
“Time is running out
there needs to be some action now
...catastrophic climate change
it's now or never
lets get together now
make this world a little better now
THIS IS THE BIG ONE... “

“This Is The Big One looks through a ticking clock at both the beauty of our planet and the stress and destruction that man has placed on the earth and is the new anthem to the perils of ignoring global warming as well as a statement about the planet’s beauty.”, says the video’s producer Eric Donaldson.
The video also includes stunning footage of his daughter, Hannah Fraser, swimming with a whale pod. Rarely seen in the wild, the footage in the video was captured during the filming of Hannah swimming with whales in Tonga, VAVA'U Island. Hannah Fraser is a professional mermaid and commercial model.
The music video was produced by Eric Donaldson of Bicoastal Entertainment + Group, and has been delivered to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, with the goal of urging global unity on the urgent issues the planet is facing.
Andy Fraser is so passionate about the issues facing the people of the earth that he has even contributed the song This Is The Big One, as a worldwide copyright free download.
He has designed a way for everyone to lend their voice and creativity by asking fellow activists to upload their event videos or pictures and post on YouTube, for the opportunity to win prizes personally donated from Fraser.
The 10 Best videos posted on YouTube.com will receive an Apple iPod shuffle, fully loaded with Andy's music catalog, and will be featured on Fraser’s website at
www.andyfraser.com. The Grand Prize winner will receive an autographed custom-built Bass Guitar from Andy's personal collection.

The Youtube Video promotion further spurred Fraser to start a new online movement using social marketing on Facebook and Twitter called Make a Difference Now. Max Bean, Chief Strategy Officer of Thrivepoint in Venice, California is responsible for marketing the video online and also believes that the public can do much to improve things like greening their neighborhoods or protecting beaches from pollutants and trash.
Fraser continues to work on his commitment to help the planet by practicing what he preaches by being “green” himself. "I love my car, electricity to power my studio and refrigerated food, but we need to find a better way, or we're all screwed. First of all we need to get a strong international agreement in Copenhagen this week, but we must invest in alternative energies, and our pull heads out of the sand regarding the reality of the condition our planet is facing", said Fraser.
Fraser is busy at work finalizing his upcoming CD "On Assignment" scheduled for
release on McTrax International along with the long-awaited "Alive" concert
DVD/documentary.

Jingles and Tingles Welcome
Christmas in New Book
“My Belly Button Is Missing!”
(Unforgettable Tale Rocks the Holidays!)
The holidays will be sprinkled with jingles and many tingles when “My Belly Button Is Missing!” a new children’s book, takes its rightful place on bookshelves. It brings with it much merriment, joyous times, tickles and smiles from children, and parents, cites author Alfred Porter.
Billy Bob, the six-year-old hero in this story, is no young Scrooge, but he has lost his belly button. He definitely wants to find it. He wants to make sure that his belly button gets home safe and sound. “The boy believes that it might be hiding, or maybe it is playing the ‘catch me if you can’ fun game. But since Christmas is nearby, he probably is thinking about old Saint Nick and those feisty reindeer all dressed up in sleigh bells,” says Porter. All questions and interests are welcomed by Paula at pl1porter@aol.com, or by going to www.mybellybuttonismissing.com.
“Billy Bob thinks that his belly button is having some trouble finding its way back home and that makes him very sad, and the jubilee is so very close, claims Porter. “Billy Bob believes that his belly button is all alone and that there might be no one around to look after him,” concludes Porter.
This just in time for the holidays book selection doesn’t let the yuletide reader down. This book is a highly engaging reading that the whole family will become attached to.
“My Belly Button Is Missing!” appeals to those dedicated holiday lovers who can enjoy a warm hearted and exciting caper for the whole family,” says its author.
According to Porter, “this magical, good-feeling story, which is great for family reunions, offers a surprising holiday twist, near non-stop entertainment.” The author sees this book as an unforgettable, classical delight.
"My Belly Button Is Missing!” will be a gift to handsomely stuff into any Christmas stocking. You will pat yourself on the shoulder when you see the happiness and sheer enjoyment in your young ones’ eyes, concludes Porter.
