    Frequently Asked Questions

Why use the California Press Release Service?
It is a fast, convenient, economical way to deliver your news to 500 daily, weekly and college newspapers all over California. Newspapers are more likely to read press releases sent out by their association.

What format can I send you the press release in?
The acceptable formats are pdf and text or RTF (rich text format).

    What are your deadlines?
Our deadline every week is Monday noon PST. However, if you have a press release that needs to go out ASAP, we can send it out at expedited rates.

How soon will you send my press release out?
If we receive your press release on deadline, we will send it out within 24 hours. If you want to specify a particular date or time you must order several days in advance.

How do you send press releases?
Press releases will be sent via e-mail to a database of newspaper editors that we maintain. They will also be posted on our website, www.CaliforniaPressReleaseService.com

Does your contact list include all the newspapers in California?
No, it does however include about 90% of the daily, weekly and college newspapers in California.

    What do you guarantee?

Our guarantee only covers distribution of the press release to newspaper contacts in our database.

What makes the California Press Release Service different from your competitors?
We have better contacts in California than any of our competitors. The newspaper contacts are taken from our regularly updated newspaper and college membership database.

How quickly does the media use my press release?
Daily and weekly newspapers may use it within a few days or a couple of weeks. Often the time to see your release in print is based upon two key factors: One - how newsworthy is your event? Two - Is there something else happening in the news that your press release fits in with?

    I have additional questions?
Please direct any additional questions you may have to Maria Rodrigues (916) 288-6010 or Elizabeth Graziadei (916) 288-6019.

    Press Release Tips

INCREASE THE PROBABILITY OF GETTING THE INK YOU WANT

Here is what newspaper editors are looking for in a press release:

Local angle – the information has to have relevance to the region and its readers
Write a headline – summarize your press release with an appropriate headline
Write in a newsy style – the lead, or first paragraph, should contain information that is newsworthy and catch the editor’s attention – something that is topical, conversational, relevant or of human interest. The rest of the press release should contain essential information (who, what, when, where, why) in short, easy-to-comprehend sentences.

One page – in almost all situations, you should be able to state your message in one page or approximately under 600 words. Be concise. Avoid cliches and excessive description. Keep it simple.

List a contact – your information may raise questions in the editor’s mind, or the editor may want a new quote to personalize the press release. List contact(s), title, daytime phone number (include toll-free number if available) and best time to contact them – ensure these people are willing and able to talk to the media.
Be sure of your facts.  A reporter, columnist or editorial writer must be able to depend on you for accurate information.

Clear date – state clearly when the press release may be used, such as “for immediate release” or “for release at 10 a.m. PST June 12”

No advertising – a self-serving press release will be thrown out by newspapers.
When not to issue a press release?  Ask yourself "is it truly newsworthy?"

Have a friend read the release to be sure it is interesting, understandable and free of typographical errors and misspellings.

    Go easy on quotes.

Two Wyoming Transmission Projects Targeted for Advancement by Federal "Rapid Response Team for Transmission"

CHEYENNE, October 10, 2011 – Federal officials announced that two of the seven transmission line projects picked by the federal government for accelerated permitting and deployment originate in the State of Wyoming.

The new Rapid Response Team for Transmission (RRTT) is co-led by the U.S. Department of the Interior, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the White House Council on Environmental Quality. By making permitting processes across federal land faster and more streamlined, the goal of the RRTT is to "create thousands of construction and operations jobs, and help to transform the Nation’s electric system into a modern, 21st century grid that is safer, more secure, and gives consumers more choices about their energy."

The Wyoming transmission lines chosen for the national RRTT program include the proposed TransWest Express Transmission Project and the proposed Energy Gateway West Transmission Project, both of which must cross hundreds of miles of federally owned land...

S.O.S. Mark Zuckerberg, Stalking Victims Everywhere need you

Mark Zuckerberg’s stalking case can be a triumph for stalking victims around the world.

Stalking victims and advocates believe that the key needed to bring about real change in the stalking victim resource system lies in Mark Zuckerberg’s hands. Not that we wanted him to suffer the horrors that we’ve suffered. No, we hope his stalking ordeal ends quickly and happily. But this talented social networking giant has the power, the technology and the international exposure needed to unlock the gates of reform. He is the key to help us bring real attention to the cyberstalking epidemic and the tens of thousands of victims who suffer each year.
I am sending out this virtual SOS and hoping that he hears our signal.
